Angkor Wat

I've finally finished my exams today! But now that I'm slowly getting over my traumatic encounters with medieval sheep, polyamorous kings, and Renaissance humanists, it dawns on me that I'm still pretty unprepared for Cambodia!

Here is what I know so far:
  • Don't stray from streets, because you might step on a landmine and lose a limb or two
  • mini-skirts are frowned upon.
  • 'tngkai sok' means friday
  • I MUST NOT TOUCH THE MONKS   (Apparently, I cannot even hand a Buddhist monk anything directly - I have to put it somewhere for him to pick up)

I am also starting to realise, that I got really lucky with the location of my project. My guide lists Siem Reap as the number one place to go, 'the hip new face of Cambodia'. It's right between two of Cambodia's most stunning sites: to the North, right outside town, are the famous, breath-takingly beautiful Angkor temples, while to the south there's the huge Tonle Sap lake with its 'floating villages'
